Hi,could anybody tell me what did I wrong and why the oldvalues and newvalues collections of Details View Update Event Args in Item Updating method are containing the same collection of values even if I change them on the page in Details View form ? However, Command Arguments come from database to linkbutton. Hello, the Details View will renders as a table ,and its layout is not flexible enough , this is why the Form View Exists, its the same as Details View , but it has a flexible Layout , so the Form View is the b...I assumed the new Values should be those I previously filled in into the textboxes before I catched the On Item Updating event :-(Any advise would be appreciated Hi,akosko: Would you plz post some relative code here for further discussing? Andwhen one of these command buttons is cliked it must go to proper page. How do the different data presentation controls equate in Newvalues represented each record that was returned--not the fields of a record that is being updated. Remember, the Details View, while capable of displaying multiple, pageable records, only works with one record at the time. It worked while your record index was less than the number of properties / columns in your data source. Or, does it replace the existing parameter with the "new" one. Let's say my parameters were: fname = Rob mname = John lname = Searing state = KS and I do e.newvalues.insert(0, "lname", "Spaanjaars") will that replace the "fname" parameter with "lname" (because fname is the 0-placed parameter--and I am performing an insert into the "0" position with a different parameter name "lname" The reason I ask is because "ptype" was not the "0" position element in the record..filename was..the filename didn't change with e.newvalues.insert(e.commandargment, "ptype", dropdownlist.selectedvalue).fact everything worked liked I wanted it to..when I try editing the "second" record-which would have resulted in e.newvalues.insert(1, "ptype", value) or the third, which would be e.newvalues.insert(2, "ptype", value)..always updated perfectly..sure why. I am still curious about the behavior and why, what I describe above, worked. NET 2.0 Instant Results and Beginning Dreamweaver MX / MX 2004I think so.. I think my biggest problem was that I thought that e. Selected Value) Where e.command Argument was the "selected record" (ie the 9th record) and that e. Insert would insert the value of the selected dropdown and put it into "ptype" for the "9th" record) Obviously, my logic was skewed..not sure why this actually worked for the first 8 records (first 8 paintings) that were returned. However, New Values contains the new values for the current record being updated, giving you a chance to modify the current data before it gets sent to the data source. NET 2.0 Instant Results and Beginning Dreamweaver MX / MX 2004While reading your original post again, I see what the problem is: e. Command Argument contains the zero-based index of the *record* in the Details View). You used the record index to determine a property index. Last question--so if it was creating a new parameter--would it matter what the size of the e.newvalues was? Details View Update Event Ar gs) Handles Details View1. My custom data routine that I was using to bind data to my Details View was comming from the active directory. This is driving me batty as I cannotdo anything with my data. -Timothy UPDATE: Ok I dont know why this is, but maybe someone can explain it to me.

Selected Value) I thought that this would put the value into Ptype for the currently selected item. So, I thought that if there were 12 records in my detailsview, there would be 12 "newvalues", I thought e. Intelli Sense for New Values might have revealed that: "Gets a dictionary that contains the new field name/value pairs for the record to update" Imar --------------------------------------- Imar Spaanjaars Cheers, Imar --------------------------------------- Imar Spaanjaars I actually debugged and even though I had e.newvalues(e.commandargument, "ptype", dropdownlist1.selectedvalue) which translated to (1, "ptype", 20) where 20 is and id to a table value and 1 is the second field (0-based array) of the record which is not ptype---it still passed the right parameters into my object.

I created the Details View Data Binging sub which populates the field using a datatable 4. Everything works with any issues, just no data is ever returned. Mode Changing '# When the form mode changes we handle how the form loads and what it looks like here Select Case e. Edit) 'Bind Details View() 'Put into insert mode Case Details View Mode.
